Cherell Beddard joined the Office of Governor Kathy Hochul as Assistant Counsel for Tax, Financial Services, and Insurance in 2021. Most recently, Cherell served as Special Counsel for the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (HCR) where she served under both the Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Rent Administration and the General Counsel.

Prior to that, Cherell served as Senior Attorney for HCR, where she provided legal assistance and support to the agency’s executive staff and other departments within HCR at the policy making level. She was also an Associate Counsel and Compliance officer at JPMorgan Chase &Co., as well as an Adjunct Professor at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law, Hofstra University.

Cherell has been the recipient of many accolades throughout her career in both government and in private practice. Cherell received her LLM in Taxation from Boston University School of Law, Juris Doctor, with a Certificate in Securities & Corporate Law and a Certificate in Civil Litigation from Maurice A. Deane School of Law, Hofstra University, a Master of Science in Adult Education and Program Development from Fordham University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Law & Legal Assistance from Morris Brown College.
